I was invited to speak at the 2017 Global Missions Conference at Clarks Summit University in Clarks Summit PA. Technology is an amazing tool that is at our finger tips in this age we live in. Utilizing technology for ministry is one of my favorite topics to discuss, but often over looked are the dangers that come with this powerful tool. I chose to discuss this topic with the college students as they face these struggles everyday. Here are some digital dangers.

1. Consume our time. Technology consumes so much of our time and redirects it away from that which is more important. The average person spends 2.5 hours a day on social media. Imagine what you could do with the extra time each day. Maybe have coffee with someone, read a book, or memorize a passage of Scripture.

2. Lack of knowledge. We tend to borrow knowledge, ideas, and personal study from others who have done the hard work. We need to do some of our own research, earning the knowledge ourselves. It is also important to recognize the technology resources that can help with ministry efficiency. Not knowing the right tools can waste time and money.

3. Lack of accountability. We need accountability and guidelines to stay on track with our technology. This includes tools and people who can help. Having both accountability and guidelines brings freedom to live and serve more effectively.

4. Compromised quality. We tend to not put out quality material. We settle with what we can create, which can be offensive to many, and not getting quality resources or help to make our work look good. Along this lines we will use imagery that will distract rather than engage our audience for the point we are trying to drive home.
